Angel Sanchez utilizes his architectural background to come up with designs for his fall 2013 line. The designs have a sense of form and structure as he focuses on fit, cut, and proportion. His clothes hug the body of women better than a glove.
Sanchez started his fashion career in Caracas, Venezuela in the early 1990s. His mother was a designer and inspired him to be one as well. His fashion house has become popular in Latin America and allowed him to expand globally. Today he has headquarters in New York. He is a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Among his clients include Taylor Swift, Sandra Bullock, Eva Longoria and Beyonce.
Sanchez has been based in New York since 1997 but he remained loyal to his South American roots that led him to be one of the judges for Project Runway Mexico. He is also a participant of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Mexico since 2010.
His Angel Sanchez collection is found at luxury retailers across the globe. In the United States, his line is carried by Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, and Neiman Marcus. His spring 2014 bridal collection was inspired by the bridal magazine covers in the past as well memories of his mother’s designs. Sanchez presented a retro bridal collection that featured classic cuts with modern twists. Some of the details include matte floral embroideries and intricate lace. There were also mermaid silhouettes and A-line shape.
Sanchez incorporated architectural designs in his gowns, such as an embroidered panel that went down the front of a column gown. Another gown was improved with triangular cutouts that showed the back of a jacquard dress. A simple gown with long skirts can be removed to become a cocktail dress for the reception. It has these simple things that make the designs memorable.
